Ok, so I finally did it—I got my bedroom organised! It took a lot longer than I expected, but when you’ve accumulated so much stuff, it takes as long as it takes. The important thing is, it’s done.

As for the meal plan and master shopping list, they’ve been started but are far from finished. And that’s completely ok. Simple living is a process—something to be enjoyed, not rushed.

Moving Into the Kitchen

Now, we’re heading into the kitchen. Don’t worry, this isn’t about deep cleaning. We’re just going to:

  1. Make sure the kitchen is tidy.

  2. Go through all the food and throw out anything that’s out of date.

  3. Make a list of everything that’s left.

Truth be told, if something’s sitting in your pantry, chances are you use it. That list will make an excellent addition to your master grocery list.

Connecting the Lists

Once this is done, take a look at your master shopping list (don’t forget to add in the ingredients from your meal plan). Then, pick one thing that you can start making or growing from home.

For me, this is where the fun really begins. I love creating and gardening, so I looked at one of my favourite meals: a ham, cheese, and tomato omelette.

Now, let’s be honest—the star ingredient is eggs. But since I live in town, chickens aren’t an option for me right now. Ham is also off the table, since it comes from livestock, and I’m not quite ready to experiment with cheese making. For now, I’ll focus on stocking up on those items so I don’t run out.

That leaves the fillings I can grow: tomatoes and herbs. Perfect timing, too, because spring has just begun and I’m excited to get into the garden and start growing.

Simple living isn’t about doing everything at once—it’s about finding joy in small steps. For me, that step is planting tomatoes and herbs. What’s yours?
